The Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC) is a private, non-profit organization committed to providing safe and affordable housing for persons of limited income living in Henderson County and surrounding areas, because we believe every human being deserves the opportunity to live in a decent home. Housing Assistance Corporation first began in 1988 and currently develops affordable apartments, offers home repairs to families below 50% of median income, provides one on one pre-purchase counseling, offers self-help and new homes through the home ownership program and is a certified packager for USDA.
Overview of Housing Assistance Corporation’s Self-Help Housing Program
The Housing Assistance Corporation’s Self-Help Housing is a program in which participants save money and earn “sweat equity” toward their new homes by completing 65% of the labor. Self-Help families are members of our Henderson County community whose income is below 80% of the area median income. These Self-Help families are the people who contribute to making our way of life in Henderson County possible every day.

I am so grateful to be building a house with Housign Assistance. I’ve learned a lot of thigns about building a house. It’s exciting! The houses are very nice and spacious. I can’t wait to move in.
Also, it’s great to meet and know my neighbors even before moving in. There’s a lot of work involved in building a home. It’s a rewarding process. – Phyllis, Self-Help Program Participant
