Caroline County Habitiat for Humanity is a nonprofit developer in Caroline County, Virginia. Our vision is to ensure that all residents in Caroline have access to affordable housing. We believe home ownership is the best way for most Americans to gain wealth, but, more importantly, to build a firm foundation for each member of the household’s success for generations.
Caroline Habitat became an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International in 1998. Using the Habitat zero interest self-funded loan model, our affiliate was able to build five homes. As a new grantee for the 523 program we are excited to expand our ability to build many more affordable homes in Caroline.
Using the Self-Help program method, Caroline County Habitat for Humanity partners with buyers of modest means to build their own affordable homes. These homeowners will have mortgage payments that are no more than 30% of their adjusted household income.
Caroline County Habitat for Humanity believes that the one of the most important keys to being a successful homeowner is good financial practices. As such, we help those interested in the Self-Help Housing Program who do not yet qualify, due to credit or debt issues, by offering financial education classes.
